RV Sealant - Non-Sag vs Self-Leveling

The kind of sealant you apply to your RV is important. To determine the type of sealant you need for your application, you will want to consider what it is you are sealing and where it is on your RV.

Self-leveling sealant is designed to level out as you apply it. The thick liquid slowly flows into a level position as gravity takes effect. This is particularly useful when sealing flat surfaces, like around a roof vent, AC, or skylight. As you apply the sealant, gravity will cause it to settle into an even line, giving you a clean, low-profile look.

Non-sag sealant is designed to retain its shape as you apply it. The consistency of the liquid is thick but malleable enough to be easily applied without causing sagging or slumping. This is useful when sealing vertical surfaces, such as the edges of a wall, window, or vent. As you apply the sealant, it will harden just enough to keep the liquid from drooping, giving you a clean, even look.

Worked well for a year, a little noise in bushings, However, just this week, 15 months after install, the fan began to turn on by itself: and via the control panel would sometimes turn off when I pressed the power button, but had to disconnect the power, then re-connect, and would be okay, but now it just stays on at a high speed when connected to power.

> Now it just turns on when I connect power, and none of the control panel buttons do anything.
>
> It is connected to 12 V system 2 100 ah lithium batteries to buss bar fuse box.
>
Wow, ad for over $200, you would think this thing would be a bit more resilient, What a shame, cheap manufacturing, for great earnings for Maxxfan executives.

> What can be done to fix this control panel issue?

Great job in replacing the damaged tube of x-treme sealant. There was never a question just an effort to satisfy my needs. Thanks

by:

Just what I needed. Thank you.

by:

Item was delivered on time. I have not used it yet but from previous reviews online I am sure I will have no problem using it to seal a new MaxAir fan that I have also ordered from E-Trail

by:

This was thicker and more difficult to apply than I had anticipated. That said, I do think it worked ok to caulk around the refrigerator vent on an old camper trailer I have. It was an unusually cold day when I applied it so that may have contributed to my difficulties.

by:

Great customer service!

by:

Great product

by:

I read the instructions, followed what they said to do and I had great results. No leaks Thank you so much!!

by:

Good caulk

by:

Installed a new 14 x 14 ceiling vent. There was enough product in this tube to adequately seal around the entire vent. It did "self-level". The application is smooth and sealed. It set up for several days out of the weather adn we did not experience any visible leaks inside during or after an extreme thunderstorm.

by:

This product was once my go to for lap sealant but doesn't flow out like it once did.

I recommend setting the sealant tube in warm or hot water to allow it to loosen up before using. It may allow it to flow better.

by:

Good sealant

Shipping was exactly what was noted all the products were exactly as ordered have yet to use them thank you e-trailer

by:

Really happy with the items great customer service

by:

Great product , would recommend over using silicone any day

by:

Really impressed with how shipment progress is displayed! Will be a repeating customer!

This was a great lap sealant at one point but doesn't flow out nice like it once did.

  • Replacement 12 Volt Vent Fan For 1995 National Dolphin Roof Vent
As you do not know the exact model fan you have in your 1995 National Dolphin motor home I recommend replacing the entire fan. This will save you in the future as the parts for the older fans are becoming obsolete and difficult to find. The MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent # MA00-07500K is a great upgrade over your current fan. This vent fan has 10 speeds and can operate as an intake or exhaust. It has a built in rain shield so you will be able to operate the fan even in the rain. And the thermostat...

The motor you mentioned is a specific replacement for a Fan-Tastic vent, so it won't allow a conversion from a manual to a powered roof vent. There isn't a universal type of application to do this, so you would need to replace your roof vent with one that has a powered lift. There are a couple of options for this, from Fan-Tastic vents: - Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan and Remote - Powered Lift # FV807350 - Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan and Thermostat - Powered Lift # FV803350 They...

This is exactly the type product to use for sealing a roof seam on an RV, it is designed to seal the roof membrane edges and vertical surfaces. I suggest the # 34427034145-1 for a self-leveling option with skylights, vents, and other horizontal surfaces of your RV. The manufacturer of LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Non-Sag Sealant for RVs, # 344270341437-1 does not list a UV rating only that it is water resistant with a shelf life of 18 months. As with most sealants, they do not have warranties...

  • Can A MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe Wiggle Free From Road Vibrations
The MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # MA00-07500K weighs approximately 18lbs. In my experience if the vent is installed correctly the lid of it will disintegrate from UV rays long before it would ever wiggle free and fall off the RV. Since you're installing this in a van the you'll want to build a frame, like you can see in the attached video below, and thicken the roof up to a minimum of 1". This will give the vent a nice sturdy base to mount to. You'll need to use some butyl tape...
